Love and relationship tarot readings, while much like any other types of tarot readings in terms of process, are actually quite unique in many ways due to the nature and depth of the feelings that are usually involved. As a professional tarot reader with experience in this field, I would like to share my observations and knowledge of what I believe you should expect when getting a love and relationship tarot reading, what questions you should ask and how to follow up your reading.
1) Firstly, come to the reading with an open mind. This may seem obvious but can actually be very difficult if you are feeling vulnerable or hurt. Many people have a love and relationship tarot reading because they want to know if a lover is going to return and this is of course a very pressing question to the individual. However, bear in mind that the cards may give you information that is important to your situation but not a strict yes or no (more on this below) as the cards rarely work in this way. If you are open, you could find the information invaluable.
2) What questions should you ask and, equally important, not ask? This really centres on how to start the reader focusing the cards on the right subject area without feeding him or her too much detail. Whether you ask for a general reading or if you ask a question or not will not affect the reading itself and either choice is absolutely fine. However, it can really help the reader to help YOU interpret the situation - rather than the other way round! After all, a reading may well be very accurate but if you don't understand what's being said it's not going to be of value. However, this is also why you will not want to give the reader too much info, as this will affect their psychic perception and can lead to the reader concentrating too much on the details provided and not enough on what the cards are showing. A good tarot reader will NEVER ask you for details and they will be confident enough in their abilities not to have to do this. So strike a balance in your question. Sum up what you want to know about but don't give them the full story.
3) Can you expect specifics from a love and relationship tarot reading, such as names and dates? These are not strictly the realm of the tarot, more of psychic abilities. While they can be provided it would be best not to expect them. Instead you can expect the cards to give you proof by way of showing you the characteristics of the people involved, in showing you the core aspects in your life and the situation and picking up on emotions. These are what you should look to for confirmation.
4) One of the most fascinating aspects of the tarot, and the one I love the most, is the fact that you can see so many options and so much potential for situations in the cards. I believe this is empowering as it means that your future is not set in stone and you can have influence over the way things go. The cards offer ways to improve the situation, guidance of where you may be going wrong and also where to start in putting it right. This is more relevant to love and relationship tarot readings than any other types that I do. Sometimes people are confused by this aspect but are in fact missing the real beauty of this wonderful method of divination. You may want yes or no answers from the cards but this does not mean you will be any better informed on your future prospects from asking for this. We all have many choices to make in life and cannot absolve ourselves of all responsibility but in my book, why would you want to when this is where all of your true potential comes from!
5) How to follow up your reading? If possible, keep a copy and refer back to it a few weeks later to see if you can identify with the things that are happening around you and also to see of you are following some of the guidance in it. You may find that subjects or areas that came up in your reading didn't make sense to you at the time but have actually come true for you later, or something suddenly makes sense that didn't at the time. There is often a lot of information to take in in one go so you may need to go over it a few times to fully absorb it all. You may also need a top on any guidance that your love an relationship tarot reading gave you and it can sometimes be easy to slip back to doing the very things that were holding you back in the first place.
A tarot reading is a very personal process and can consequently take just about any shape and go in any direction. However, I hope you have found some interesting points to think over and can take with you when you have your next love and relationship tarot reading.
